Featuring:  HCS® Optical Fibers and Cables

HCS Optical Fiber Cables come in sizes from 50 µm to 800 µm, with many sizes in between, including our most popular, flagship choice: 200 µm HCS fiber. HCS fiber is made with a hard polymer material applied over the glass to make the fiber rugged, crush resistant, flexible, and strong. Beyond core size, there are many varieties of this rugged fiber:

  • Step- or Graded-Index multimode waveguides
  • High or Low water content
  • Numerical Apertures from .20 to .43
  • Cabling options for multiple fibers, aramid yarn reinforcement, and more.
  • Connector options—depending on core size, most HCS fiber cables are compatible with V-Pin, ST, SMA, and F07 connector types.

HCS fiber cladding improves tensile-strength performance and resistance to moisture; it also allows connectors to be directly crimped to the fiber. The result: tough fiber with fast, efficient field terminations. The 50, 62.5, 200, and 400 µm sizes are compatible with crimp and cleave termination, a significant feature allowing easy connectorization with a few hand-held tools.

Originally designed for heavy-duty industrial environments, these fibers are remarkably versatile. The ETFE buffer is USP Class VI non-toxic, biocompatible, and sterilizable, making some of these fibers suitable for medical applications. Their inherent tensile strength, crush resistance, and flexibility opens doors to more applications, such as continuously flexing robotic units. And high bandwidth allows more data to be transmitted through these optical fibers than through more traditional copper media.
