Featuring: GeoSil™ Pure Silica Core Fibers

GeoSil pure silica core fibers are specialized for the harsh environments found in the oil and gas industry. They come in GeoSil single-mode and GeoSil multimode step-index versions.

Why pure silica core?

Distributed Temperature Sensors (DTS) commonly use traditional optical fibers having high germanium concentration within their cores. When deployed in the hydrogen rich down-hole environment, temperatures often exceed 250°C with high pressure. This combination of hydrogen, high temperature and elevated pressure causes hydrogen to diffuse into the core and this leads to high attenuation (optical loss) within the fiber. GeoSil fibers are produced without core dopants, using pure silica instead. As such they are resistant to hydrogen ingression and support long-term operation in hydrogen-rich environments.

Combining pure silica core technology with advanced carbon layering and high temperature PYROCOAT®, OFS provides optical fibers well suited to the harsh environmental needs of oil and gas applications.

We also offer traditional DTS fibers

Many DTS systems were developed around traditional germanium doped fiber technologies. OFS fully supports these applications with graded-index Geo50 and Geo50-SA fibers that include a carbon ¬outer layer for resistance to hydrogen ingression plus PYROCOAT® for high temperatures.
