We’ve heard you asking for better search capabilities on our site. Here’s what we’ve done. OFS has joined forces with the leader in engineering search engines, Global Spec, to bring you the products with the specs you need faster. All our latest catalog products and specifications are cross-referenced within the search engine and are fully searchable. Don’t forget that OFS also has a multitude of customization capabilities. Early users have told us they love the new search capabilities Global Spec brings them. This can be as indispensable a tool for engineers as a calculator or a CAD program; and to our loyal FiberWire readers, we want to pass along the tip.
Global Spec organizes products by type and makes them fully searchable by various specifications appropriate to the product. For example, you can search for a single mode fiber by its NA or by its coating type, such as carbon. Looking to manage dispersion over certain wavelengths? You can specify “dispersion compensation S-Band” on Global Spec. Need a cable with an SMA connector? Enter those terms in Global Spec’s search box. Go to www.GlobalSpec.com. In fact, make it a shortcut on your desktop, and when you have search queries like these, Global Spec’s search engine will lead you to our products and services. Registration is quick and free. Secret: If we do not make a product with the specifications you seek, the search engine will lead you to a company that does … but we certainly hope that sort of thing doesn’t happen too often.
There are three main ways to search for a product on Global Spec:
- Find/Search — a blank box at the top of most screens is the quickest, easiest method.
- Filter Your Results — a link that appears to the left when you have pages full of results from an initial search.
- Advanced Search — a box that appears at the left of the screen when you've already narrowed your search to a category, such as Fiber Optic Cable, allows you to refine your search even further by individual criteria or through an entire menu of choices under "View Entire Specification Form."
We’re very interested to hear about your experiences on the site, whether you’ve found what you sought, how easy it was to get there, what else you’d like to see. If there is anything else we can do to make your product-design-and-specification jobs any easier we are here. Call a Technical Sales Engineer.
