OFS Specialty Photonics Division has
qualified and introduced a new dual-acrylate coating system
for the ClearLite® and TruePhase® fiber product
lines at our Avon facility. "This new coating is a variant
from the same supplier and is used throughout OFS locations,
so it is well understood," says Jim Moore, Product
Manager for Single Mode Fibers.
Originally developed for demanding long-distance telecommunications
fibers and undersea applications, the new coating exhibits
modest improvements in minimizing induced loss through temperature
cycling. "The coating exhibits improved performance
in humid environments and better isolates the glass from
external stresses, reducing microbend losses," Moore
explains.
ClearLite
fiber encompasses several families of photonic fibers, each
optimized for different applications: 980, 1310 & 1550,
Micro, Specialty Coated, Short Wavelength, and Polarization-Maintaining.
TruePhase
fiber includes all of OFSs non-doped polarization
maintaining fibers. These are single mode fibers optimized
for different wavelengths and cladding size requirements.
The new coating system was qualified and introduced into
manufacturing for all Avon dual-acrylate coated fibers as
of January 2006. For more information, contact your account
executive.
