The cleave tool for HCS® fiber that
is supplied with OFS termination kits requires periodic
cleaning and proper technique to function properly and avoid
waste and needless expense.
Key maintenance points to remember are:
The diamond blade must be cleaned periodically.
Gripper pads must be cleaned and kept oil-free.
Pads must be replaced when they show signs of wear.
When using the cleave tool, be sure that the trigger is
depressed slowly and that the fiber is kept perpendicular
to the diamond blade.
A booklet
covering cleave tool cleaning and maintenance is included
with OFS termination kits. The recommended procedures can
help avoid waste and expense, especially if the diamond
blade requires replacement.
