Trains, commercial aircraft, and ocean-going vessels—from cruise ships to submarines—employ specialty optical fiber from OFS. Their transportation hubs use fiber too, in train stations, bus terminals, airports, and control towers. In harsh environments like tunnels and railways, critical performance factors include: wide temperature range, resistence to moisture, chemicals and temperature. OFS offers cables to meet these needs.
To meet the stringent requirements for indoor use, our LSZH HCS cables combine the ruggedness and crimp & cleave assets of our standard HCS cables with the environmentally-friendly LSZH construction. ST, SMA, and F07 connector styles are all crimp & cleave compatible with these cables offered in 50, 62.5, or 200 µm sizes.
In addition to meeting UL-1666 requirements for Riser rating, LSZH cables also meet IEC and the European Union (EU) Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive (2002/95/EC, dated 27 January, 2003) for omitting certain named hazardous substances from electrical and electronic products. They also omit 3 compounds currently being considered for restriction or ban: PVC, bisphenol A, and antimony trioxide. Aside from RoHS, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in Helsinki, Finland, has issued REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) as a regulation governing chemicals in manufacturing in the EU. It encompasses a currently changing list of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) which are regularly reviewed and considered for restriction or ban. None of the SVHCs, named as of August 2010, are contained in OFS Low Smoke Zero Halogen Cables.
Low Smoke Zero Halogen cables from OFS are designed for on-site connectorization using OFS crimp & cleave technology. Using hand-held tools, no epoxy, no curing ovens, and no polishing, crimp & cleave connectors are completed in minutes. A short Crimp and Cleave Process Video shows termination with an ST style connector. OFS also offers SMA-905, F07 and V-Pin connectors.
